What Does an Interior Designer Dream of?
The opportunity to unleash their creativity on their own home!
I had long awaited this day and, after years of renting in London, my partner and I moved back to Norfolk to embark upon a new chapter - purchasing our first home and setting up my design studio.
Of course, we haven’t taken the easy route. Somewhat naively, we began the process of converting two terrace rental flats back to a cohesive family home. Four and a half months later – with countless hours managing trades, lugging bricks and pulling down lath and plaster (never again!) - I can just about see the light at the end of the tunnel…
Alongside the tedious practical and managerial work, I have found great enjoyment in visualising various design iterations for every space. Specifying the materials, colours, design and style has been the easy and enjoyable part – tweaking and developing my designs and collecting samples that are wholeheartedly my personal style. I know what I’ve always loved so I’ve been confident with my choices – natural, textured materials, solid wood, tonal colours, a connection to outdoors, soft shapes, unique details and a fusion of eastern and western aesthetics, combined together to create my - sorry our - dream home.
The hard part, as I’m sure everyone whose managed a home renovation will agree on, is juggling the additional workload alongside your career, whilst trying to keep some semblance of a social life and exercise routine. I must admit the latter of the two has really taken a back seat – a necessary step to achieve our design and home goals.
I look forward to sharing finished photographs of our home later this year, once the builders are out and the painters (my partner and I) are in, but until then, here’s one of the dining room designs which can give you a feel of what’s to come!
My ideas are forever changing and the beauty of designing my own space is that I have the autonomy to finesse and develop ideas on the go, so I can guarantee the archways but the finer details are ever evolving! Watch this space or follow me on Instagram @cosustudio for updates!
P.s I have some availability coming up for interior design projects, so do reach out if you are a busy homeowner who wants help creating the quietly luxurious space you’ve always dreamed of – without the stress!
